Yesterday we got to meet with Steve with our French Bulldog. We desperately needed help with dealing and managing some... of our boys behaviours
We had already been shown some training techniques by a different trainer but these were not working and in my opinion I felt it was encouraging the negative behaviour It was good that Steve was able to come to the home so we ( as a family) can see what we are meant to be doing and where we kept going wrong. We needed educating on how best to help Monty.
Before Steve's visit we were feeling desperate, on edge and tense at times ,when Montys behaviour escalated but after our session with Steve, we are left feeling confident about the future. Knowing with the training techniques we have been shown, we can turn things a-round.
We had a positive experience this morning with my daughter leaving the house for work using the training techniques Steve showed us which was so lovely. Less stressful for us and for Monty.
We are very happy and satisfied with the service Steve has provided and knowing we have ongoing support for the year ahead is fantastic.read more

We have a 4 month old Germa Shepherd puppy who is very lively and strong willed, my wife and I found training Margot... difficult so called on the services of Rehabilitation and Training. Wow what a difference we have seen in Margot, after just 1 session Margot was walking to heel and responding to simple commands. Obviously this was in Margot but it was under the direction of Steve that my wife and I were able understand the needs of Margot and how to get the best from her. We also have the ongoing support should we have any queries or issues. I have no hesitation in recommending Rehabilitation and Training.

After using various trainers for our boy Diesel and finding them not very helpful at all. We found Steve. The first... person to come in and talk through it all with us and listen. He has shown us that with our leadership we can help Diesel to become a more friendly and secure dog. It seems his human and dog aggression is based on fear. Steve showed us that when Diesel lunges at visitors to our home that he hasn’t met before there is a consequence for that unwanted behaviour which involves an immediate 3 minute time out in another room. It has never occurred to us to do that before and we’d simply stopped having people around. We now muzzle Diesel and keep him on a loose lead inside when people are here and instruct everyone to just ignore him. We’ve actually had visitors for the first time in ages. Only twice have we had to use the timeout room. It’s a work in progress of course and will take time but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Also rather than just leaving us to it Steve has sent a detailed report which is fabulous for me to refer to. Diesel has a few other issues too which are all covered in the report. Also, we know Steve is there for us to reach out to whenever we come up against anything we are not sure how to deal with. Thank you Steve. Thoroughly recommended, a friendly approach and very knowledgeable. Paul and Julieread more

Thankfully Steve rescued us! We were feeling desperate after nearly 4 years of trying nearly every local behaviourist... with our very anxious fearful dog Otto who hates visitors (intruders!!!) coming to the house. We often fretfully talked about rehoming but knew that wasn’t the right thing to do and who on earth would re-adopt a dog like him?!! Steve spent the day with us showing us what to do, totally unfazed by his fear and anxiety. He made us believe we could help Otto become more confident through demonstrating assertive calm commands. Although he will never be like a friendly relaxed Labrador greeting people at the door (haha) we now have a dog who will tolerate and even settle when we have a visitor or two which is MASSIVE progress. This will be an on-going training process we know but we feel very hopeful that we could host our friends in our home and even have an enjoyable time without worrying about Otto’s reactions to them. At the beginning of the year our Alaskan Malamute Puppy (Bruce, aged 10 months at the time) experienced an intense... panic/anxiety attack in a car park due to a loud car exhaust back firing. Following this experience we struggled to get him out of the house on walks and for roughly 6-7 months he was barely walking each day. My partner and I tried everything we could to get him out of our estate and onto the road, however he would refuse to move. Due to the change in his walking, Bruce started to become aggressive, very on edge and we were close to breaking point.
After searching google and reading lots of reviews we came across Steve Hutley and got in contact with him straight away. Steve was quick to reply to us, he gave us initial advice over the phone and booked us into his next available slot.
On the day of the training, Steve was brilliant. He was very informative and knowledgeable in his field and as doggy parents we felt contained and well supported. Steve stayed with us all day and instantly put all our worries/anxieties at ease - Bruce was also an instant fan of 'hot dog man'!!
The most amazing thing, was that with Steve's support and guidance we got Bruce OUT OF THE ESTATE and on his old favourite walk (across a busy main road) - a walk we have not done all year! We were in complete shock and overwhelmed with happiness.
Since the training day with Steve we have managed to get Bruce off the estate and on a walk, EVERY SINGLE DAY, and each day we see Bruce getting more and more confident.
Following the day's training we received a well written and detailed report and we have an open channel of communication with Steve, if we need to talk to him.
We cannot thank Steve enough - he honestly and wholeheartedly changed our lives and we are enjoying our family walks once again! If you are looking for a trainer - I cannot recommend him enough. Thank you so, so much Steve.

A big thank you Steve! Finally we have our boy jumping in/out the car.Jack took an instant dislike to our new car.... We spent a couple of hours talking and getting jack used to Steve being there. We took jack for a walk (thanks for the tips on having jack walk more calmly), moved the car off the drive to a quiet side road. Then gradually Steve got him used to walking past the car with the boot open. Eventually Jack jumped in. Words cannot thank Steve enough!!
We hit crisis point with our 4 year old Jack Russell Geoffrey. He had been a great... dog but suddenly began biting me and our 2 year old twin girls randomly to the point every moment I spent in the house with all three was stressful, I was was in a constant state of panic he would hurt our Daughters and a bit scared of him, he became unsettled and barked constantly at times other than when my fiancé was home and I thought we were going to have to re-home him.
I have to say I had given up and was skeptical Steve could help but my fiancé wanted to give it a chance before we made the dreaded decision.
Steve gave up his only day off in many to squeeze us in (not squeezed as he spent the most part of the day with us) this when he knew toddlers were being bitten although he was fully booked for months ahead.
Within a couple of minutes of arrival at our house I could see a difference in Geoffrey.
Steve made us realise by my becoming apprehensive around Geoffrey I’d lost my place in the pack and put myself and the girls below him, this making him anxious when my other half was out as he felt responsible to work harder protecting us and the house.
Not only did Steve teach me how to regain my pack place, he taught us to understand Geoffrey and invaluable skills to deal with his behaviours in the right way effectively, he also helped us correct behaviours we had just learnt to live with thinking we could never change.
Geoffrey no longer bites, or barks constantly at anything he can see move outside like a squirrel, bird etc, doesn’t jump up on anyone coming into the house, alerts us someone has approached the house but that’s his job done and he stops when told and only jumps on our sofas when invited! Only because Steve taught us how to understand and use techniques AMAZING I was blown away!!
We now have a very happy calm dog who we all enjoy being around again!
Steve is absolutely outstanding at what he does, he’s calm, knowledgeable and non judgemental (we really let our dog down with ignorance and neglected him somewhat after having twins)
Can not rate his service highly enough he changed our lives.

Steve is so calming and patient he spent time at home explaining techniques to us and giving advice about both our... rescue lurchers Martha and Dylan then we took our very anxious and reactive to other dogs Dylan out to learn to walk to heel then into the park to confront his anxiety around other dogs. Steve was brilliant with him so calm and encouraging reassuring us that Dylan was not a problem to other people with his noise and giving us ideas of how to cope with him so he was less anxious. I truly felt like I was walking a different dog after a while as he relaxed under Steve’s positive attitude. A week after adopting our fearful noodle Mable the Greyhoud we realised we need professional help. She was an ex-racer... and has never been in a home before so was frightened of us and worst of all frightened of going for walks and would not move from her "safe spot" We called Steve to find out what can be done and he took the time to explain and give as a few tips without the pressure of having to book him or pay anything. We decided to book him for an initial consultation and it turns out it was the best thing we could have done! Within just one day Steve was able to show us a few simple but effective tricks to make her and us feel more confident.Steve also explained everything in such a fun and understandable way without any judgement and after a week of using the techniques we have seen so much improvement! She now wags her tail when it's going out time and is in general a lot more confident. Thank you so much Steve! We can't wait to watch our girl grow and learn how to dog with your help. We will be in touch for more sessions as well.If you're in any doubt how to approach things with your dog do not hesitate to get professional help and if you already decided to do that, there's no need to look any further! Thanks again Steve!

Steve has been amazing. I can't recommend him highly enough. He is always on the other end of the phone if you need... him - going beyond the "call of duty". Steve has been training (me) and Ranger (German Shepherd) since we got him at 12 weeks old - he is now almost 14 months. We have had issues with him becoming aggressive towards other people, however Steve has guided us, supported us and reassured us. There is no doubt that he needs his own TV show. I have a beautiful Staffy who is playful fun and ever so affectionate but a total nightmare on the lead, pulling and... biting the lead whenever we go out, I was almost getting to the point of dreading taking him out and some days not wanting to go at all.
I asked Steve for his help and have been blown away ! Steve showed me how to walk Marley to heel and suggested the best lead for him, what to do when he pulls and even how to hold a lead properly so I had complete control.
Steve cuts through all the confusing advice that is out there and practically shows you in a way that is simple yet effective. We even covered dog on dog behaviour as Marley is sometimes reactive if other dog’s approach. In less than an hour and a half I had a dog walking to heel and walking alongside another dog !! Totally Amazing !
I am now looking forward to taking my dog out rather than dreading it every day. Thank you so much Steve, this will give me so much more freedom in places i want to walk knowing I have a dog that will walk without pulling.

I'm writing this on behalf of my mum Heather & her dog, Berkeley the German Shepherd xxWe just cannot thank Steve... enough.
We have a 6 month old German Shepherd who is reactive to people & dogs, yet was fine at puppy training etc.
It got to the point when taking him out for walks, I was apprehensive and dreading the daily 'ordeal', as he is so strong
When Steve came, he told us that I was transmitting these feelings down the lead to the pup, which is why he was so reactive. He took us out on a walk, and BANG, 4 reactive dogs appeared, as soon as we left our house. With Steve showing us the proper way to react, pup walked past with no reaction at all. I'm not ashamed to say, I cried. It was like a Eureka moment!! After 6 hours of Steve being here, I felt confident that I would be able to cope & be calm and not let the pup think he had to protect ME. I have taken him out since, shown him the calm assertiveness that was needed and even when he does react to people or dogs that are too close, I now have the confidence to walk by. I just feel so sad that pup was trying to protect me, as he sensed my fear, and that I was the problem, not him.
Father Christmas has given me the best present ever, thank you Steve, I can now enjoy my new pup and turn him into a well balanced boy. We just cannot praise Steve enough & would NOT hesitate to recommend him.

Steve spent over 6 hours with us and our 7 month old staffy x mastiff, Hector today going over all our training needs,... covering a wide variety of things.
Hector has been a generally well behaved dog but had shown some possessive tendencies which we wanted to address immediately to prevent escalation, and also wanted to "fine - tune" our training to make sure we were giving hector the correct direction in life.
Steve has given us the tools to address these issues and the confidence to move forward with the right training techniques.

We contacted Steve at Rehabilitation and training for help with our one year old French bulldog Rocco.
Rocco had been... quite dominant and was using aggression to get his own way. He was snapping at all members of the household (all adults), but was fine out on walks meeting other dogs and their owners. The behaviour was only towards members of the household, but not visitors to the house.
Steve came and carried out a thorough assessment of the families interaction with Rocco. We have not had a dog before so there was a lot to learn, even though Rocco had completed puppy training courses.
Steve spent time with all of the family and together we learned how to get things back on track.
Rocco used to bark at any cars or people walking across the front of our house, but he now responds when we acknowledge his alert following up with ‘quiet’.
Rocco now stays on his touch mat when asked, in order that a caller at the door can be seen without Rocco fighting to get there first!
Rocco also stays on his touch mat when it’s time to prepare dinner, where before he would jump up constantly.
Steve has encouraged us to use a small lead when allowing Rocco into the living room to assist with asking him to get ‘off’ the sofa, as he would storm into the room and protect his seat. Now Rocco successfully waits to be asked up onto the sofa and the ‘off’ command is no longer needed.
In addition to the tasks indoors, Steve has given advice and demonstrated getting Rocco to walk to heal. Rocco grasped this very quickly. This has been a huge success and all the family are now much more confident in taking Rocco out!
We can not thank or recommend Steve enough. We were aware that the problems were created in the main by us and not Rocco, but we have managed to turn things round. This of course is an ongoing process.
Just to add, Rocco has just spent a week at a doggy hotel while we were on holiday. He has been well behaved during this time. Rocco has also maintained what he has been taught and things are carrying on in the same vein - onwards and upwards.
Thank you Steve for your understanding and patience. Rocco should now be able to enjoy his home life and his family have a much better understanding of his needs.read more
Thoroughly recommend Steve, he is a really nice guy who is fantastic with dogs. He came to help us with our rescue... Harry and his territorial barking which was getting out of hand. Steve was able to teach us in three hours how to communicate to Harry some simple, positive but very effective ways to stop the barking. Obviously Harry is still allowed to bark, as dogs should, but we can now quieten him and calm him down when we need to which is good for us but also very good for Harry as he doesn’t need to be as stressed out. The session was worth every penny. A big thank you to Steve.read more

Steve came to meet my 15 month old Westie yesterday. She had decided she wanted to be top female and look after me on... her terms. She was definitely well on her way to achieving her ambition and used every means to get there, even biting.
Steve spent all day with us and put up with my constant questioning about dog psychology. By the time our day was over Mabel was walking beautifully to heal, and obeying EVERY command with ease for Steve and ME!! I couldn't believe this well behaved dog was mine. I used a crate for her when she was a tiny puppy but she hated it. Steve said he could make her like it and I really thought he would fail but yet again, he made her love it and now she spends most of her sleeping time snuggled up in there with her cushions around her. As for the growling and biting I have been educated on how to cope with this. She did give me a couple of nasty warning growls last night and she was humainly punished. She hasn't done it since.
I highly recommend Steve no matter what the problem, he really knows his stuff and it shows how much he cares about dogs.

Steve visited us today to work with our Rough Collie, Sylvie, who was rescued from Romania 18 months ago. We have been... experiencing a variety of unusual issues which all come down to a lack of confidence. She has been refusing to leave the sofa unless asked, won't drink in front of us, sometimes won't eat, and is terrified when she is anywhere in the house, except "her" sofa. We have had 4 collies before and have never experienced anything like this, and after 16 months of working with her, and having advice from other trainers, we were at the point of giving up and, literally, letting sleeping dogs lie! Steve was recommended by a friend, and I have to say, was a breath of fresh air. He came with no preconceptions, and was not judgemental in any way. He had to totally reverse the advice he usually gives to people, and I felt that he worked not only with Sylvie, but also with me as an individual. He was with us for 6 hours, and took time to assess what he saw on the day, as well as taking into account my opinion. By half way through the appointment, Sylvie was happily lying in the kitchen, in her dog bed, a place where she had never before ventured without scuttling through the room in a panic, despite bribery with treats of cheese. We now have a plan firmly in place in order to make her comfortable in different rooms in the house, one at a time, and I'm pleased to say that she is sleeping next to me in the kitchen, despite all doors being open - she has chosen to be with me. Thank you Steve - from me and Sylvie. Xread more
Steve came to help me deal with several issues with my two Rescue dogs, Biscuit and Crumb. From excessive barking, to... lead pulling and nipping.I couldn't believe what a positive influence he had on Biscuit and she seemed to visibly relax in his company. Steve has shown me how to help Crumb who is deaf and how I can adapt hand signals so he understands what I need him to do.He clearly has a brilliant understanding of dogs and what makes them tick. Steve has given me the tools transform my delinquent pair, so now it is down to me to work with them. We covered so many aspects of dog behavior today and I simply can't thank him enough. I can't recommend Steve enough, a really decent bloke and a brilliant service.read more
Steve has opened my eyes to what is achievable in such a short space of time. Lots of hard work ahead of us but so... worth it. I think you should call yourself a "dog whisperer "! Thank you so much Steve.read more
Steve came recommended. I took my dog Ozzy on as a rescue and he had some behavioural issues when on the lead and... meeting other dogs. He's a big dog so I was also anxious about keeping him under control when out for walks and meeting other dogs.Steve spent a good 5 hours explaining ways in which to change his behaviour, both at home and when out. Steve has a reassuring and professional manner that you feel you can trust. He came on a walk to observe Ozzy and a dog came running up while we were out and Ozzy didn't react. It was that quick of a change. Steve explained that I need to also change my reaction to these situations to try to keep everything calm.
It's been over 3 weeks since our consultation and Ozzy is making great progress. He will walk really well on the lead and is so much calmer when meeting other dogs and rarely reacts, I also feel a lot more confident. This has made walking him so much less stressful and a lot more enjoyable. Thanks so much.read more
We recently got a Romanian street dog from a local rescue centre and as first time dog owners, we were struggling with... her for the first few days and were thinking of taking her back.
She was never aggressive but kept nipping, we couldn't eat food in peace as she'd jump at us, the walks consisted of us being dragged round the streets, having to have a wrestling match with her for me to leave the front door for work in the mornings and it got to stage where my partner had to sit on my lap in a single seat whilst the dog had the three seater sofa to herself cause she was such a pain if we tried sitting on it. Then we decided to call Steve and we're so glad we did.
He's obviously very knowledgeable and with teaching us and her clear instructions and showing us how we should be more dominant, it's made such a difference already. We know we still have a lot of work to do but after just three days she now sits, stays, pretty much won't go on the sofa unless invited and the walks are much better. We love her to bits and so glad we kept her. Thank you Steve!read more

Today i spent 5 odd hours rolling my eyes, tutting alot and saying "oh my god yes & I'M so stupid"..... Today I was... trained.... I can not express enough how thankful i am to Steve. He truly knows his 'stuff' and he has guided me and given me back my faith in my ability to train my 8mnth old german shepherd who has been pushing his boundaries. Most of what i was taught today is common sense from the dogs point of view. I can not wait to put into practice all i have learnt. (id start straight away but Ace is soundo haha). Many many thanks Steve. I truly and highly recommend anyone who needs training (yes you not the dog ) to give Steve a call.read more
Thankyou so much for working with us a family with millie and gemma. It was really enjoyable to understand what the... dogs are thinking and why they behave in such a way. You had patience with me when i kept getting it wrong.Ive put your training in place straight away last night with successful walk to heal around the roads stopping at every road crossing. Then went over woods this morning early, so they can assess there environment and again successfully avoided other confrontation from other dogs. Recall was brilliant and fun.Millie hasnt been on sofa since!Thankyou so much and highly recommended your services xxxread more
